Where did you grow up? Tell us a little bit about your childhood/teenage years. I grew up in Pennsylvania on a 10 acre rural area. We had horses, my sister and I showed hunter jumpers during high school. Between that and running cross country and track, I survived the stressful years of high school. It wasn't terrible but I never felt connected to my peers. It didn't help that the house we lived in was a falling down farmhouse in desperate need of repair so bringing any friends over wasn't an option! 2. What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I'm a huge fan of backpacking. I've thru hiked the Pacific Crest Trail and section thru hiked the Appalachian trail. I'm also on a masters cross country team (clin northwest) in Seattle where I try to keep up with my teammates, running 6k through mud and puddles. :) 3. Do you have a favorite cause, or something you’re passionate about? Tell us a little more about it and why you’re passionate about it. I really feel passionate about helping youth find their joy and path in life. I've worked in social services in the past (cps) and have witnessed many youth who don't have mentors, trusted adults or help with resources. This early social work I did has always inspired me to support youth and be instrumental in linking them to opportunity and adult connection. We’re so grateful you’re a part of the Port Townsend coalition, Holly! Thank you for sharing some of your amazing past and accomplishments with us. <https://mcusercontent.com/3961206950e6df0e4b4689479/images/76d0cf4a-f9d5-97b4-2558-eb83183be2b6.png> Fall Updates * Quilcene/Brinnon ETC tabled at the Quilcene Fair in September! * Mackenzie Marmol brought prevention games, prizes, and resources to raise awareness about both substance misuse prevention and some of the great programs and services provided by the ETC! * Positive Social Norms Campaign: Chimacum and Port Townsend collaborated with Rakers Car Club and the Port Townsend School District to provide a positive social norms photo opportunity at the Rivals Homecoming Football game on October 4th! * Teens could view positive social norms signs and take pictures with a 1930s Chevy truck! * Promoted Medication Take Back Programs: In lieu of our usual in-person DEA Med Take Back event, we publicized our county’s ongoing Med Take Back locations throughout October! * WA State Prevention Summit: Mackenzie, Holly Gumm, Kara, Holly McIlvane, and Jerome attended the Summit in Seattle, WA on the 29th-31st of October! * Participants heard keynotes on current research relating to prevention science and social determinants of health, and were able to attend a variety of workshops relating to prevention work * Also spotted- Jerome in a conga line! 🕺🏾 * Red Ribbon Week: from October 23rd to 31st, Chimacum students in the prevention club celebrated Red Ribbon week with help from Jerome! * Classes participated in a Red Ribbon Week-themed door decorating contest (with a donut party prize!) * The prevention club also put together a fence display on the outside of the school to show support for Red Ribbon Week <https://mcusercontent.com/3961206950e6df0e4b4689479/images/1903403b-4268-3908-957c-29b3782e8825.png> <https://mcusercontent.com/3961206950e6df0e4b4689479/images/e861eb43-d672-efe9-3611-c88e777fcee7.jpeg> Coalition News * Strategic Planning for the next biennium will continue through the end of this calendar year!
