With Republicans taking control of both the House and Senate in early January, it is especially important to take action in the next few weeks before Trump and the new Congress take
over.
The next four years will be a marathon, but the next few weeks are a sprint.
Action is the best antidote to despair, and the time to act is now: Climate champions currently in the House and Senate must hold firm to protect people, not polluters. This includes
passing critical legislation and saying NO to the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024, which would mirror many of the alarming goals outlined in Project 2025 and gut bedrock environmental

It has been less than two weeks since Trump won the election, and I know a lot of us are already feeling drained. We're all processing in different ways, and it will take time to come
to terms with the consequences on our communities and climate. It can be hard to find the energy to take action when everything feels like an emergency.
The next four years will be a marathon, but the next few weeks are a sprint. In January, Republicans will have a slim lead in the House and Senate. Until they are sworn in, we're in
a "lame duck" session, meaning we have just weeks to urge the current Congress and President Biden to do everything they can to safeguard our health and climate.
Right now, we have a real shot at blocking bad bills like the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024.

If passed, the Energy Permitting Reform Act would endanger our climate, public health, and undermine our clean energy future by:
* Opening up federal lands and waters to further oil and gas leasing.
* Fast-tracking or even eliminating review of proposed gas export, known as LNG, projects that harm communities and perpetuate the climate crisis.
* Locking in new greenhouse gas emissions, estimated to be equivalent to the annual emissions from 154 coal-fired power plants.
* Making it more difficult to oppose new oil and gas projects in the future.
As we prepare for what's coming under a Trump administration, we know that Democrats in Congress are going to be playing a lot of defense.
Trump and his allies have made it clear they plan to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, give tax breaks to Oil and Gas corporations, gut environmental justice initiatives, and more.
While we probably won't be able to block every bad bill, we can -- and should -- hold every legislator accountable. That is why we need every climate champion in Congress, which volunteers
and advocates like you across the country helped elect, to stand firm. If they know we have their backs, even under huge pressure, then we have a real chance to fight back and stop
the most harmful pieces of legislation.
