As you may know Jefferson County is number one by double and one half to the next highest county in homeless folks per capita , again homeless folks make up a large portion of Jefferson County constituency, again, disabled, older, folks with mental health, economically unhoused folks marginalized disenfranchised folks make up a large portion of Jefferson County population and yet people in government, contractors, business people often can't understand, prioritize or act on basic hierarchy of need; safety, sleep, toilets that are regularly open , serviced including transit centers ( Jefferson co not the only offender)and shelter contractors who are the most frequent offenders. When it comes to ecology homeless don't consume trees because we have no housing,if we have cars we live in them, we have limited fuel budgets, we wear used clothing to keep it out of the landfill, we repair used appliances and ride bikes and we recycle when we can, yes we use plastic because there is so much rain but we also try to reuse. There is so much extra packaging in new consumer goods that could be stopped if manufacturers cared or housed consumers cared. Right now at Evans Vista camp we use more tents because of high winds and disabled people have a hard time securing their tents in high winds if a group wants to come out set up pallets and OSB ( which can be reused ) and really nail down those tents with tarps for the rain because it's the wind and rain ( wind chill) that's imperiling folks. Also please ask the Jefferson County health department Harm Reduction unit to send you photos of Eden Bloom's project "curating empathy project" a group of homeless folks took photos of homeless life there are items from my trip to Washington DC for the Grant's Pass v Johnson case Housing not Handcuffs. We would like recycling containers at Evans Vista please. Both Evans Vista and Casswell Brown have Air quality issues due to the pulp mill in Port Townsend, that means disabled folks are severely affected by the chemical emissions from the mill, and the government has chosen to place the most vulnerable, marginalized folks in the most dangerous public health wise, because these people are considered the least valuable even though their cost to the taxpayer is next to nothing compared to their benefits. Txt me 253-988-3446 cheers Maggie stop calling homeless people a threat to ecology.
