Click here to find out <https://media2.charityengine.net/WF/_transactionServerFiles/1161/LegislativeDay(7).png> Help Us Advocate for $150 Million Join us for Parks and Great Outdoors Day on February 11th, 2025, hosted via Zoom with the Washington Recreation and Parks Association. It’s a chance for everyone, even new advocates, to talk with legislators about the importance of the outdoors. We’re asking for $150 million for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) to protect working lands, wildlife habitat, and create more outdoor recreation opportunities. This would provide funding for 115+ projects in the State -- amongst those, 34 local parks, 8 trails, and 5 water access projects. You have experienced renovated trails, bathrooms, campgrounds, roads, and other services made possible by federal funding. This September, the US Forest Service announced that due to a budget crisis, <http://smartmailerclick.bisglobal.net/act_linkClick.aspx?sm_guid=ODI1NjU0fDc5MzUzNjg5fDF8amVmZmJvY2NAY28uamVmZmVyc29uLndh LnVzfDc2MTY5NjB8aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZnMudXNkYS5nb3YvaW5zaWRlLWZzL2RlbGl2ZXJpbmctbWlzc2lvbi9leGNlbC9zZXB0ZW1iZXItMjAyNC1jaGllZnMtYWxsLWVtcGxveWVlLWNhbGwtaGlyaW5nLXVwZGF0ZXwwfDB8MHwxMTYxfDB8MHx8ODIwNjA5fDE 1> they will not hire seasonal or temporary workers except those who respond to forest fires in 2025. This will result in cutting more than 2,400 seasonal jobs, including trail crews, wilderness rangers, and other temporary staff, reducing their ability to maintain trails, clean trailhead restrooms, collect trash, and provide other essential services. The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) is set to run out of funding at the end of 2025. Since its implementation, the Forest Service has received $75 million for 33 projects across our state. GAOA also secures $900 million annually for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) <http://smartmailerclick.bisglobal.net/act_linkClick.aspx?sm_guid=ODI1NjU0fDc5MzUzNjg5fDF8amVmZmJvY2NAY 28uamVmZmVyc29uLndhLnVzfDc2MTY5NjF8aHR0cHM6Ly9sd2NmY29hbGl0aW9uLm9yZy98MHwwfDB8MTE2MXwwfDB8fDgyMDYwOXwx0> , the nation’s premier grant program to protect our parks, trails, wildlife habitat, and working lands across the country. This event included many partners, including the Snoqualmie Tribe, the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, the Department of Natural Resources, and Washington Trails Association. Thanks to those who came out to join us, despite the rainy weather! Despite the number of partners listed, this still doesn’t capture everyone who has put in work and effort into all the projects that have been done in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Valley. Over 90% of the Middle Fork is protected public lands—a remarkable achievement! Jefferson Land Trust used this grant to purchase a conservation easement on the approximately 115-acre Hannan Farm, located in Jefferson County. The purpose of this acquisition was to permanently preserve the prime agricultural soils on one of the largest historical working farms in the Chimacum watershed. But, by her own admission, she overlooked opportunities to learn about her heritage as a Japanese American to focus on being on the water. So when motherhood sparked a curiosity to learn more about herself and her family, she sought out a distant relative in Seattle with a shared love of fishing. As she peels back the layers of her own identity, she learns about Tengu Club, the oldest salmon fishing club in the United States. By exploring the club’s creation and its enduring legacy, Hilary confronts pieces of unexposed history, revealing the aftermath of WWII and the internment camps for thousands of Japanese American families.
