RE: Planning Commission tonight CANCELED
@
Comments received - thanks Jim.
As we have now entered an open public comment period (12/3/08 - 1/30/09), your comments will be forwarded to the
Planning Commission for their consideration.
To answer your questions:
Yes, we are currently working on assessing the cumulative effects of the proposed SMP. A revised Cumulative Impacts
Analysis (CIA) report will soon be available. An early draft version (June '07) is online at
http://www.co.iefferson.wa.us/com mdevelopment/PDFS/SM Pu pdate/DRAFT Cu m ulativel m pacts%206-2 9-07. pdf
Also, regarding your question about # of parcels, yes the 6,200 estimate reflects all parcels that intersect/are
intersected by shoreline jurisdiction - either partially or fully 'contained' by.
As to Some early analysis of this type of information was presented to our advisory committee(s) about a year ago
(12/4/07). See those numbers online at
http://www.co.iefferson.wa.us/commdevelopment/PDFS/SM Pu pdate/ST AC&SP AC/2007 SP AC&ST AC/Pa rcels%20i n%20
Shoreline%20Planning%20Areas12-4-07.pdf but keep in mind this information will be updated in the pending CIA
report. The 6,200 estimate referenced earlier this month is a more up to date figure.
Also, please note that the 20-foot 'slop factor' is intended to accommodate the fact that ordinary high water mark isn't
mapped, therefore shoreline jurisdiction can't be mapped precisely. We thought a 'give or take 20 feet' approach would
give us a pretty good idea of what we're looking at. Again, look for additional, similar and more refined analysis coming
soon.
And finally, as you review the numbers from this early analysis, please note that to better understand the naming &
labeling of Shoreline Planning Areas along freshwater and marine shoreline segments used in this document, see the
maps of the Shoreline Inventory & Characterization Report Map Folio, especially maps #8 and up. Each lake, section of
stream/river shoreline and section of marine shoreline has a distinct name. For example: "Lake Leland", "Little Quilcene
River 2" and marine shoreline segment "EE" at Mats Mats Bay. Also see the maps on pages 4-8 and 4-9 of the Final
Shoreline Restoration Plan.
Best regards,
Michelle

Michelle,
The presentation on the 3rd referenced 6,200 parcels potentially affected. Do these constitute every shoreline parcel in
the county, as everyone is potentially affected? And, do you know how many of these parcels are undeveloped? Knowing
how many potential building sites are remaining would go a long way in measuring cumulative impacts.
Thanks,
Jim

Hello all,
The large white flakes coming down and the National Weather Service's increased status to Winter Storm Warning
drives our decision to CANCEL tonight's Planning Commission meeting. We'll aim to bring the SMP Side-by-side
comparison to the January 7 meeting.
Everyone stay warm & safe,
Michelle
