At that meeting, one of you said that your group was to have had the SMP in September to begin your review. You did not get it until December. What a ploy by DCD. Now I see in the agenda that you are planning to make a decision by the end of January. I am a realtor specializing in waterfront for 20 years. It is already very difficult to get a building permit on waterfront. This new plan will make it impossible for hundreds of lots -- it will low property values, reduce the amount of income to the county through excise tax as well as property tax revenue -- it will ultimately result in a multitude of lawsuits by property owners who lose the value and use of their very valuable waterfront property. In the discussions, much is made of the parts of the plan having to do with marinas (we'll never have another marina in this county!), docks (few areas can support a dock because of wind), subdivisions (I can count on one hand the number of properties that could ever be subdivided until the Comp Plan, -- but little direct discussion is conducted on the major effect this plan will have on the 6,200 properties that fall under the plan. Morever, property owners have not been given notice of what it will do to them. Oh, yes, they got three mailings telling folks a change was coming and inviting them to meetings. These mailings should have outlined just exactly the changes and what it will mean to them. Frankly, this plan is the most egregious document I have ever seen put out by any government. And yet you plan to 'review it' in 2 weeks and then vote. I am ashamed and embarrassed and believe the date should be set back so that we can voice our concerns and let you know just how bad this document really is. I truly think you all should have time to discuss the residential section carefully before you vote -- for you know not what you do. I hope to get a letter written for the newspapers that outlines just how dangerous this document is to tax-paying property owners; I would hope that the Planning Commission could give themselves enough time to review carefully before you vote.
