Subject: SMP comments
Dear Patricia Farmer, Peter Downey and Henry Werch (Dist #2 reps),
Thank you for conducting the meeting last night is such a fair and open manner. My wife and I
chose not to stay until the end of the meeting, but the fact that you deferred the initial items to
start citizen inputs at 6:35 was an unexpected surprise. Thank you for being sensitive to those
present to speak to the board.
Thank you also for serving on this committee and working diligently on this effort.
Many of those commenting voiced concerns similar to mine. Issues of legality, over-reach,
need and fairness all seemed to be a central theme from the speakers. I was particularly surprised
by the comments from one speaker about attending some of the workshops and how little that was
discussed during those workshops appeared in the current document and lots of other items not
discussed at the workshops (and more restrictive) appeared there instead. It certainly calls into
question the value placed on the inputs of citizens of Jefferson county. Thank you for listening to
and including inputs from the citizens into the final regulation.
My bottom line is simply this:
There is no need for any regulation more strict than the minimum required by current
state or federal law. Everything else in the SMP must only be a recommendation. I see
no need for the citizens of Jefferson county to be poster children for an over-reaching,
ambitious regulation that raises the bar to being the most burdensome regulation of all
counties in the state.
Sincerely,
W. 'R. A lo/YV
