Hood canal is already in bad shape, and your plan is to allow mining activities, including conveyor belts, piers, and barges on the conservancy shoreline of Hood Canal? Think. Think again. The entire Hood Canal shoreline is designated as a "Shoreline of State-Wide" Significance." and your plan is going to destroy what ever is left of the Hood Canal. Intensive land uses or developments within the shoreline of Hood Canal, a shoreline of state-wide significance, should be discouraged or prohibited. The pier, conveyor and barge facility will intrude upon the magnificent grandeur that is now existent, converting the natural characteristics and beauty of the existing shoreline into one marred by industrial enterprise. Hood Canal remains a pristine waterway, virtually void of commercial shipping of any kind. It's shoreline is not yet marred by industrialization. I strongly urge you to amend the current preliminary draft shoreline master plan to prohibit mining activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal and any other shoreline of state-wide significance within the county's jurisdiction. Thank you, Sincerely, Paul P. Lee M.D. 1/26/2009
