Subject: The Health and Future of Hood Canal
Dear Jefferson County Planning Commission-
I am writing you today to passionately urge you, the Jefferson County Planning
Commission, to amend the current preliminary draft shoreline master plan to
PROHIBIT mining activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal and any other shoreline
of state-wide significance within the county's jurisdiction.
Hood Canal remains and should continue to carry on as a pristine waterway,
virtually void of commercial shipping of ANY kind. It's shoreline is not yet marred
by gross and damaging industrialization. However, she has been having troubled
waters and the shorelines need careful monitoring for pollution and as we have
sadly witnessed in Puget Sound with a highly expensive clean-up.
We should not allow private interests, whose motives are purely financial, to
destroy this beautiful gift of nature, a water way that is enjoyed not only by
Washingtonians, but by those who come from all over the world. This is an
opportunity to show that this county has taken responsibility to take care of our
precious natural surroundings. The beautiful qualities the Hood Canal offers us now
and into the future for the upcoming generations should NOT be exploited. Please
say NO to industrial enterprises who are only interested in personal financial gain,
nothing more, just profit not matter what the environmental cost.
Again, please amend the current preliminary draft shoreline master plan to
PROHIBIT mining activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal and any other shoreline
of state-wide significance within the county's jurisdiction.
Thank you!
Linda Jarvis, my family and many friends.
