Subject: Shoreline Master plan update
For the planning commission and county commissioners of Jefferson County. It is my understanding
that the current Shoreline Master Plan update which you will consider in the near future includes
provisions which would legitimize the "Pit-to Pier"project in the Hood Canal. Frankly, I am dismayed
that it is even up for consideration, and I urge you to do the right thing by revising the plan to preclude
such destructive development on this threatened "jewel" of our region. Please consider the well
documented potential damages which this operation could bring; not only to the Hood Canal, but to the
Hood Canal Bridge, and the surrounding region. The Master Plan would provide the strongest argument
and "leverage" to permit the project to proceed as originally proposed by Fred Hill, as well as opening
the door for other similar development on the Canal. Please set aside short term economic
considerations for the larger goal of preserving and even restoring what should be considered a unique
National Treasure available for the enjoyment of ours and future generations! John S. Ahl ; Poulsbo,
