New SMP Off the Mark! Dear "Planners", Has the last 5 years of public outcry fallen on deaf ears? I understand tuning our SMP to new state regs, and I don't object to mining per se, but to allow such projects as the Pit to pier Project by FHM flies in the face of other language of the new SMP which declare the Canal to be of "state-wide significance"! Hood Canal is a special resource aside from the minerals nearby and its ecosystem needs to be protected. The new SMP wants to tighten development use on private property/residential owners and stresses the need for "natural" areas thereby moving residences back from the view. But on the other had it says that waterfront development with piers and barges is just dandy! I can't believe it! If this is your way of saying "Yes We Can" I say "No You Shouldn't"! Please reconsider and prohibit ANY industrial development on Hood Canal! The future will thank you. Kelly C. Brandon, AIA, SEGD 1571 Thorndyke Road Port Ludlow, WA 98365 1
