Subject: Shoreline Master Plan
We were quite disappointed to see that the draft Shoreline Master Plan revision permits mining
activities including conveyor belts, piers and barges on the Hood Canal shoreline. This is
clearly a first step toward allowing the dreaded "pit to pier" development, which would
potentially cause great harm to the Canal and unknown dangers to the floating bridge. Please
amend the final Shoreline Master Plan to prohibit mining activities on the Hood Canal shoreline
and any other shoreline of state-wide significance within the county's jurisdiction. Why risk the
canal and bridge for the minimal potential financial benefit to the county and a few residents?
