#Long-Range Planning
Hood Canal shoreline
I am writing to urge the Jefferson County Planning Commission to amend the current
preliminary draft shoreline master plan to prohibit mining activities on the shoreline of
Hood Canal and any other shoreline of state-wide significance within the county's
jurisdiction.
We have too much to lose -- essential natural processes that are so fragile and impossible
to replace. Hood Canal is a gem of our treasured inland sea. Our generation's decision
to put private profit above the long term health of our region would certainly be judged
as a great failure. Human health and prosperity is linked to that of natural ecosystems.
Business as usual is not sustainable, and I implore you to amend the master plan to
reflect these values.
