#Long-Range Planning
Prohibit mining activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal
Dear Planning Commission members
I urge the Jefferson County Planning Commission to amend the current preliminary draft
shoreline master plan to prohibit mining activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal and any
other shoreline of state-wide significance within the county's jurisdiction.
The entire Hood Canal shoreline is designated as a "Shoreline of State-Wide Significance."
Consider the massive expense required to clean up the rest of puget Sound. Hood Canal
remains a pristine waterway, virtually void of commercial shipping of any kind. It's
shoreline is not yet marred by industrialization. We should not allow private interests,
whose motives are purely financial, to destroy this gift of nature.
Thank you,
Michael Cowsert
