I am concerned with the impact to the health of the waters off puget sound. Fish farming and any other aqua
farming that concentrates waste material, biochemicals in the water is not healthy for our natural fisheries.
These types of facilities are unsightly and also will hurt property values. Noise and pollution from mining also
disturbs the peaceful setting that prompted us to locate along the coast. I can still remember the noise from
Matt Matt's quarry.
I do think property owners should be able to use their properties similarly to neighbors. I am concerned with
some regulatory impacts on homeowners. My neighbor for example wanted to install a mooring buoy like all
the other neighbors in Oak Bay. Impact on eel grass was going to cost him a great deal when a concern was
raised about the "shadow" of his buoy's impact on eel grass. This was ridiculous. I fully s~pport the need to
preserve our beach and water but within reason and without inversely condeming property owners rights
without compensation.
