Dear Jefferson County Commissioners:
Please amend the draft shoreline master plan to prohibit expanded industrial and/or commercial uses on Jefferson County
shorelines. For example, one should be allowed to improve equipment or become more environmentally friendly as long as
the grandfathered use is not changed or expanded on.
A few years ago Glacier Northwest attempted to expand their Mats Mats Quarry into an industrial site (graving dock), like
the one at Concrete Technology in Tacoma, in order to make replacement bridge pontoons for the Hood Canal Bridge. This
would have put it in the middle of an established neighborhood, bordered by Puget Sound and Mats Mats Bay. If Jefferson
County residents are expected to be good stewards of the land, then that same standard should be held to others who don't
live here, but wish to use their land to the detriment ofthose who live and pay taxes here.
