RE: SMP Comments
Whoa - slow down, you're moving too fast! Certainly Jefferson County owes its citizens
a clear, understandable plan with an adequate review time about proposed plan changes.
I would ask for an overkill of information to all property owners rather than the underkill
now in process. Many residents are snowbirds and won't return until April or May.
My property has been in the family for over 60 years, and it is my intent to continue
family ownership. Now with the overly restrictive proposals, I wonder if this
continuation should go forward, and I am concerned if I will have anything to replace or
sell. In the 60 years of ownership, we have not witnessed the significant shoreline
changes contrary to published comments regarding 50 years ago without notable
examples.
We must find that balance between environment and property owners and feel that
balance has been met with very few exceptions in the current shoreline requirements.
Jefferson County has already been a state leader. I cannot help but feel that the drivers
behind the proposals are strict environmentalists with a, "too bad about the property
owners" attitude and, "they just don't get it." Well, we do get it and ask them to work
with us and not against us. How many of them own waterfront property?
Should these proposed changes become law, Jefferson County will have to substantially
change the valuations of waterfront properties which will significantly impact the
county's resources. The current budget shortfall is only a sample of future shortfalls.
Thank you for accepting these comments and I sincerely hope you will take them into
consideration.
