We in Washington State have recent history of being among the most conservation-minded, ecologically concerned states in the United States - and allowing such construction in such a wildlife intense, pristine area is unbelievable. Surely the minimum number of jobs that this development would bring to the county are not worth the destruction of marine shoreline habitat. Mason County was wiser, as long ago as the 1970's, when they forbade similar construction at the mouth of the Hamma Hamma. When this construction was first proposed several years ago, hard questions were asked concerning numbers of employees, potential job gains, etc., and the answers at that time were in single digits! In fact, when queried, the company proposing this construction actually admitted that they had, at that time, only two employees who were actually residents of Jefferson County. Thirty, fifty, or five hundred jobs created would not justify the permanent damaging of marine environment. In addition, since the intent is to sell the product (crushed rock) out of state in a wholesale environment, the county and state would also not benefit from any sales tax. DON'T DO THIS! There is no win here for Jefferson County to counteract the losses we would incur.
