C8 TO: the Jefferson County Planning Commission I respectfully request that the Panning Commission amend the current preliminary draft shoreline master plan to prohibit mining activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal and any other shoreline of state-wide significance within your jurisdiction. It has become clear that the health of both Puget Sound and the Hood Canal are threatened or deteriorating due to human activity ranging from Navy sonar to dams and deforestation. We cannot continue to beleive that enormus projects such as the 690 acre Fred Hill Materials pit-to-pier mine will have no impact. It would increase natural runoff from the land and the oils and chemicals involved in its operation and transportation of the rocks would be devastating to the already fragile ecosystem of Hood Canal.
