#Long-Range Planning

Dear Sirs:
We are property owners at 811 Ludlow Bay Rd. , Port Ludlow Wa. We have started to study
the proposed changes to the Shoreline Master Plan. Please submit our comments for the
record as you are proceeding on this issue.
* First, we want to express our understanding and appreciation for the efforts of
Jefferson County to protect our waterfront habitats and environment.
* We believe we can protect the land and the economic value of property if we choose
to do so. We are hoping very much that the Planning Commission respects both sides of the
equation.
* As we read the proposed plan changes, we see our retirement investment being taken
away from us,
1. Our lot is about 300 feet deep. If we are forced to have a 160 foot
setback you are essentially taking over half of our lot by prohibiting its use.
2. The plan is hard to read, so we question if we can trust the Planning
Commission to be forthright.
3. A conditional use permit for land I own and limiting our ability to get
to the beach is hard to understand. The perception is we are dealing with a County that
hates land owners.
If we are mis- reading the proposed changes, we would welcome your counsel and correction
of our thinking. Please do not implement changes to the Shoreline Master Plan that will
significantly hurt your citizens.
We are hoping the Planning Commission will be fare, transparent and balanced. There are
ways to meet both economic and environmental goals. Please do not impose hardship on us.
This country is under enough economic stress already.
Our best regards,
Weldon L. and Pam Leonardson
