Jefferson County Planning Commission

Subject: lefterson County Shoreline Master Program
JfffERsn~ COUNTY DeD
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
It is disconcerti.ng. to say the very least, for shoreline property owners toadeqllately express an
informed response in a very short time frame when the planning commission has spent "about 2
years of preparation. It
We believe the current draft is overly broad to the point of being cumbersome, conflicts with
general state laws, delegates too much local control to the Department ofEoology and violates
the mandate to regulate shoreline areas exclusively under the Shoreline Management Act
The provisions for fire or catastrophic destroyed strucwes causing them to be rebuilt on ot:her
than their original location will deny properly owners their legal right as a shoreline property
owner. This we find dictatorial and deserves to be stricken.
Through tirst-hand experience we have found the permitting process for beach stairs unduly
lengthy, laborious and costly. "Time is money." In the preliminary draft SMP it appears that
public beach access is treated more favorably than private access. Who is more concerned with
being a good reslXlnsible steward than the tax-paying private property owner?
We would appreciate the commission reconsidering the current draft. It can become a
desireable" fair and balanced working document if you are willing.
