I support: 1.) Based on the historic record of major operations along the shores of Hood Canal weighed against its value in a sustainable state as habitat and visual asset: Amending the current preliminary draft shoreline master plan (SMP) to prohibit mining and associated activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal and all other shorelines of state-wide significance within Jefferson County's jurisdiction is I believe, in the best long-term interest of the public. 2. Including clear provisions in the plan and any implemenary action or rulings covering aquaculture, including net pens. fish farming and related culture, shellfish culture and other aquatic activities, etc. specifically disallowing those which involve use of anti-biotics, fertilizers, genetically- modified organisms (GMO's), herbicides, and pesticides. 3. Enhancing use opportunities for sustainable, organic production of regionally-compatible native or acculturated and desirable shellfish--most especially oysters--a Treasure of the Sea. Aftert all, making it easier to adopt and apply responsible practices is a fair and wise means of encouragement. 4. Adopting the noteworthy new approach lately announced by President Obama to incorporate the findings of competant scientists in the determination of Public Policy, and the clear incorporation wherever possible, of the views of responsible citizens to ease the sizeable challenge to property owners to use, manage and hold their properties, as it were, in trust for following generations.
