Subject: Shoreline Master Plan
Dear Jefferson County Commissioners,
We live on the east side of Hood Canal, but spend time each weekend in Jefferson County. Whether driving to
our parish in Port Townsend, seeking out interesting restaurants, or kayaking along your shoreline, we fell
privileged to explore the unique beauty of your county. Our excursions also remind us that your shoreline is a
fragile treasure.
We write to urge that you amend your preliminary draft shoreline master plan to prohibit mining activity along the
shore of the canal and other shorelines within your jurisdiction. This issue demonstrates clearly that, as
commissioners, you hold a sacred trust. Your vote for protection can inspire residents and tourists to act in ways
that preserve this natural wonder. How will generations to come assess our actions now?
