To the Jefferson County Planning Commission:
We understand that the Shoreline Master Plan is being updated. If this is correct and the
preliminary draft has been released permitting mining activities, including conveyor
belts, piers, and barges on the conservancy shoreline of Hood Canal, we respectfully
request you to act now to preserve Hood Canal and protect the Bridge.
Please amend the current preliminary draft shoreline master plan to prohibit mining
activities on the shoreline of Hood Canal and any other shoreline of state-wide
significance within the county's jurisdiction.
Hood Canal remains a pristine waterway, virtually void of commercial shipping of any kind.
It's shoreline is not yet marred by industrialization. We should not allow private
interests, whose motives are purely financial, to destroy this gift of nature.
