Draft Shoreline Master Program question
.24 ro I
~
Michelle,
I took a quick look at the Draft SMP last night. It appears that the issues that we discussed back in March that were of concern
to the Public Works Department have been addressed. Thanks for your attention to this.
I did notice one additional area that should be considered. Article 7 Shoreline Modifications, 7 Structural Shoreline Armoring
and Stabilization, B Shoreline Environment Regulations, 1 Priority Aquatic Environment states that shoreline stabilization may
be permitted, but new structural shoreline armoring is prohibited. The priority aquatic designation includes marine shorelines
and the Dosewallips and Duckabush Rivers. There are existing County Roads that adjoin these priority aquatic designations.
Please clarify whether this regulation would prohibit constructing structural shoreline armoring to protect these facilities. If this
is the case, please contact the Department to discuss this issue further.
