Subject: Proposed Shoreline Plan
I wish to register a strong negative opinion on your proposed plan. Unfortunately we were out of
town at the time you had your public hearing as we would have been there.
You are proposing very strong limitations for property owners that will decrease their investment
value as well as usefulness. At the same time you are proposing changes for very specific areas but
making them fit the whole county. The existing rules of setbacks have been reasonable and useful, but to
change them for present owners, without grandfathering them will cause severe financial hardships if
rebuilding ever becomes neccessary, as well as reducing potential retirement income that they may have
counted on when they initially obtained the property.
The environmental issues you are using as an excuse can be addressed other ways without
damaging the financial structure of the county and residents. Decreased property levels and increased
lawsuits will severly impact the ability of the county to function properly. I encourage you to look for
ways to improve this county as a whole without reverting to punative measures.
Sincerely
Dr. D. G. Meek
