Dear Members of the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, I am writing to express my strong support for the approval of seed funding for the development of a Public Facilities District (PFD) in Jefferson County. I believe this initiative is essential not only for the health and wellness of our community but also for ensuring that Jefferson County remains an attractive place for visitors. As a resident and frequent traveler, I am particularly enthusiastic about the potential for a new aquatic facility in Jefferson County. Providing safe, accessible spaces for children to swim is vital for their health, development, and safety. Aquatic facilities are a significant community asset, offering a place for people of all ages to enjoy exercise, relaxation, and recreation. Our county deserves a space where kids can learn to swim, families can gather, and our overall community can thrive. On a personal note, I can speak to the power of recreation facilities in promoting tourism. My family and I travel to Oregon to vacation with friends every summer, and one of the first criteria we look for when booking our accommodations is an Airbnb with a nearby pool. With children in tow, we end up spending a substantial amount of our vacation time at the pool. The availability of such amenities enhances the quality of our stay and strengthens our decision to return. I know that a similar aquatic facility in Jefferson County could have a comparable impact, attracting more visitors and making our community a more desirable destination. Additionally, the creation of a Public Facilities District could be a catalyst for additional development in the future. Beyond just an aquatic center, this PFD could serve as a launching point for future infrastructure projects that enhance our county’s appeal in the tourism market. Without seed funding for this effort, we risk delaying this project by a year or more, potentially hindering future growth and competitiveness. The approval of funding for the formation of a Public Facilities District is a critical step toward the development of a new aquatic facility. It will support the well-being of our community, attract visitors, and position us for future growth. I ask the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee to approve this seed funding and help move this important project forward. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Kathryn Meyer Jefferson County resident
