Phase 2 has been fully funded. NO donations needed. Groundbreaking slated for Mid-January with a 2-month Temporary Closure. Jefferson County Parks & Rec received funding for Phase 2 of the playground from the Dan Thompson Memorial grant. <https://jumpplayground.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=026fe9cf2f2bf19fe17821626& id=a06fef2362&e=86e960d295> This grant is administered through the Washington State DDC (Developmental Disabilities Council) <https://jumpplayground.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=026fe9cf2f2bf 19fe17821626&id=4131f004e4&e=86e960d295> . This grant and all the private donations ensure that Parks & Rec can complete the playground as planned and have reserves for playground maintenance. Phase 2 is for toddlers and younger children. <https://jumpplayground.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=026fe9cf2f2bf19fe17821626&id=698c30cdce&e=86e960d295> It will include the play structure for 2–5-year-olds with the same accessible surfacing (tiles) that are under the swings. There will be a new Art Gate entry created by local artist Gunter Reimnitz, and shade covers over the play structure, Sea Snail Plaza and also over the Orcas. The Orcas get to 135 degrees and hotter on partly sunny 65-degree days! To ensure safe, year-round play on the Orcas, they will be painted grey and white and have a large triangular shade structure over them. There have been sightings of these types of Orcas in the Salish Sea and other areas, which occurs due to a pigmentation anomaly.
