$72 Million in Federal Funding Was at Stake. Pierce County Says it Will Keep its ARPA Funding
After months of dispute over what would be done with federal funding that would expire at the end of 2024 if not allocated, the Pierce County Council’s unanimous passage of the Mid-Biennium
Supplemental Budget at the end of November will keep the funding available for the county.
The American Rescue Plan Act has made roughly $175 million federal dollars available for Pierce County since 2021, according to the county council’s budget policy analyst, Paul Bocchi.

Public Damage Costs From Bomb Cyclone Near $20M in Snohomish County
ALast month’s bomb cyclone caused at least $18.6 million in damage to public infrastructure in Snohomish County.
Much of the damage came to power infrastructure. The Snohomish County Public Utility District saw $15 million to $16 million in losses, spokesperson Aaron Swaney wrote in an email. He
cautioned the damage estimates weren’t complete, as of Wednesday. At the peak, about 135,000 homes and businesses lost power.

Congrats to NACo Leadership Academy graduate Jennifer Johnson
NACO’s High Performance Leadership program has glowing reviews from Skagit County employees who have attended. Commissioners Wesen and Browning have also graduated from the program.
Skagit will send 8-10 more employees to one of the four Leadership cohorts in 2025. There’s a discounted tuition of $1,500 if folks register before 12/31/24.

The Department of Ecology’s Flood Control Assistance Account Program will soon begin accepting applications for updating and developing comprehensive flood hazard management plans, as

Commerce Seeking Hosts for BEACON Project
Commerce is looking for hosts for the BEACON Project. BEACON fellows will provide assistance with CBPS compliance within the host community, and would like to find counties that would
be interested in hosting.
The BEACON Project will be federally funded. The goal is to have 60 fellows in a span of three years to support Tier 1 and Tier 2 building owners in underserved and disadvantaged communities
with no-cost technical services such as benchmarking, energy management plans, community outreach and education, and operations and maintenance plans.
