Subject: Shoreline Buffers
To Board of County Commissioners and Planning Commissioners:
We are extremely concerned with the votes taken by the Planning Commission to reduce buffers from the 150
feet level that we consider to be a minimum for adequate protection of our shorelines. Such reductions will
endanger the initiative taken by dozens of environmental groups and county planners to protect all aqua
culture on the coastal shorelines of Jefferson County. It would be totally irresponsible to ignore scientific
opinion and data that clearly show larger buffers are a necessity - not a luxury.
If you have any concerns for the future of our aquatic and human environment, you won't endanger the great
food resources that are now available along the shores of Jefferson County. Keep the buffers at 150 feet
minimum.
Thank you,
Connie & JD Gallant
