Folks,
I apologize if you do not want this email sent your way, but I have sent it to you because
your name appears in the subject email from yesterday, and you may have a role where you
interact with Dr. Jeff Fisher, the subject of the Hendricks email.
I do not know Laura Hendricks, but have read her opinions regarding shellfish aquaculture
when they appear in print. She is entitle to her opinion.
However I do know Dr. Fisher, and have for about 2e years. I've known him since he was an
undergraduate at UW. The Hendricks email implied Jeff's work is biased because he is a
boutique shellfish grower. Well, I do not doubt Dr. Fisher has bias, I believe everyone does
to some extent on something. The question is whether it affects how he practices science. I
believe the answer to that is a firm "no." Dr.
Fisher has been a consultant for several companies, and has worked for the State Dept. in
Washington D.C. He currently runs the Seattle office for Environ. I find him to be a high
character individual, with high scientific and professional integrity. I have sought his
counsel on biological issues myself, and he has worked as a contractor for my office here in
Lacey. Dr. Fisher practices science the way it should be practiced, which is to say he seeks
out the truth, then tells it. He can work for me any day, and on that day I will be glad
because I know he is one of the best.
