Introducing Ben Avery, Chapter Director
After a several months-long search, the Washington State Chapter of the Sierra Club is excited announce that as of November 1st, Ben Avery (he/him) has joined us as our new Chapter Director.
Ben brings over 17 years of experience working for the Sierra Club, spending the last decade creating and leading the Chapter Fundraising program, building it into a powerhouse of support
within the national Sierra Club structure. His deep experience working with Chapters of all shapes and sizes and relationships within Washington and across the country come at time
of transition for our state and country, and will provide a steady hand as we move into this next phase of environmental justice work.
Chapter Chair Julia Reitan stated, “Ben has a keen understanding of both the challenges that Sierra Club chapters face, and the vitality they bring to the environmental movement. He
has a proven ability to develop strong sustainable programs that draw on the talents of both volunteer leaders and staff, working together with members and supporters to reach for big
goals!

Ben added the following, stating, “I’m genuinely thrilled to be here and can’t wait to dig deeper into what drives the dedication our Chapter’s strongest supporters, our membership,
to help make our planet a better place to explore and enjoy. I’ve had the privilege of working with every Sierra Club chapter in the country, but being able to lead the Washington State
Chapter – where my family and I have decided to join community – is an honor and a privilege.”
Ben is based out of Twisp, WA where he lives with his wife and daughter (along with a dog, two cats, and six chickens). As one would expect out a long-term Sierra Club staff member he
loves the outdoors, so you might catch him on a bike ride, skiing, or trail running.
Thank you for your consistent support of the environment,
Julia Reitan
Chapter Chair
