Weakfey 6/1 0/2009 June 10, 2009 To: Persons who can help protect our shoreline I am strongly supporting the proposed 150' buffer zone for shoreline properties. Please place this request in the comments and suggestions for the Shoreline Master Program. A major issue for drainage and erosion of shoreline properties is the maintenance of healthy trees on and above our properties. The 150'buffer would assist us with that goal. Three of the shoreline owners on Condon Lane are currently being asked to cut trees on their properties, even though they have erosion problems. If neighbors continue to ask and if committees in our community continue to support these requests, it is critical to have the support of our County, Department of Community Development, and all environmental groups and individuals set standards to protect the safety and security of our shoreline properties. Please support this request. I am sharing other details of our personal situation in case that may help you understand the concern and passion attached to this request. We purchased a shoreline home at 81 Condon Lane in Port Ludlow in March 2005. Within one year we had lost 10' of our bank. We worked with numerous organizations and individuals to help understand why this occurred and what we could do to prevent further advanced erosion and drainage challenges. We hired a highly recommended Geotech and spend thousands of dollars to improve and protect our property. Our property was reduced in value due to our bank erosion. We learned many things during our classes and as Shoreline Stewards. Our goal is to help maintain and improve our beautiful environment. The one major issue we humans can control is the cutting of trees on and above our shoreline. So please support the 150' buffer distance originally proposed to help us control the erosion on our one and only home and property. If my personal appearance at any meeting will help, please let me know. I will try to be there if it will help support this issue. Sincerely yours, Anita M. Weakley
