We are not Real Estate Agents nor are we involved in any commercial "aquaculture" operation. We support a strong master plan that protects the saltwater and freshwater shorelines in Jefferson County. We believe we should be allowed to rebuild our home where it is in the event of fire or natural disaster regardless of the degree of damage. We believe future developments should adhere to the science based 150 foot buffer as originally proposed by the Planning Committee. We are opposed to any use of net pens for fish farming in Jefferson County waters. We are opposed to unregulated use of intertidal lands for aquaculture including Geoduck. The processing and harvesting of commercial Geoduck farms destroys the surf smelt and oher forage fish habitat. The plastic tubes are turning up all along Discovery bay beaches in large numbers from the commercial Geoduck farm operated by one of your members on Gunstone properties. This business must be subject to environmental regulation and rules developed as needed to protect habitat, eel grass and other unknowns at this time. While we understand the efforts of the Planning Commission to accomodate the Real Estate industry and the small number of non-conforming parcels that are creating much vocal oppostion to the SMP as originally drafted, we do not believe that compromising the intent and plan to proect the shorelines of Jeffeson County is in the best interest of either the citizens, the tribes, or the wildlife that are dependent upon a natural and undisturbed shoreline. Thank you so much for the hard work and effort you all have invested in this effort. David and Gail Jenkins 25 Madrona Beach Drive Port Townsend Discovery Bay), 98368 360 385 7612 6/15/2009
