I read through the most recent edits made and could get no further than page four. It appears to be a devastating cut of environmentally sound concerns throughout your text. And I don't understand how you could be doing this. There is no rationale to your changes--unless they are driven by influence of parties who stand to gain in the short run that which billions of years have produced: clear waters, healthY wild salmon, wild refuges for wildlife already on the run from logging and mining interests. Fewer than ten years ago, when I was in my 50s, I returned to college. Geology was an area of great interest, especially at my age. It only took one semester for me to glean a modicum of information that has a scientific basis and goes against nearly every aspect of the revised SMP. I'm mystified that, in these times when we are facing the extinction of species of plants and animals on a horrific scale--that, rather than move in a protective mode to guard our shores you choose to buckle under pressure from. . . WHO? If you are considering changes based on the input of a few who will reap a short-lived monetary gain--then please take note: Most citizens do, unfortunately, take for granted the beauty of our coastline, rivers, lakes, and wetlands. We are not "on top of things" so to speak, and cannot imagine what IS, changing to what WAS. We put our trust in those officials who we elect or who are chosen (?) because we believe you will maintain the beauty, the safety, the history of our shores. Both my husband and I are part of a less-than-vocal majority; and, we have come forth at this late date to ask your reconsideration of the changes to the SMP. Please, reinstate and strengthen the safeguards already existing in the SMP. We implore you to acknowledge the many, many residents of our County who look out each day at our shorelines and thank God we are so lucky to live where we do. The revisions would be as much a shock to others as it was to us upon reading it just this evening. Again, forgive us for taking what we have for granted, and support our silent majority. Do not give away what you need to protect--for all of us. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate an email reply prior to June 17, so that I know you have received our comment. 1 Pamela and Gary Baillargeon 61-5 North Bay Lane Port Ludlow, WA 98365 An Excellent Credit Score is 750.
