This is especially critical on the Jefferson County shoreline abutting Hood Canal which is a designated shoreline of national significance. There already is a precedent to avoid such devastation within Hood Canal in the 1976 Shorelines Hearings Board decision on the Hamma Hamma Pit to Pier project in Mason County. It is our strong opinion that Jefferson County should continue this policy. In addition, Kitsap County also prohibits mining and development activities on conservancy shorelines. We urge you to allow shoreline mining related activities, including crushing, screening, washing, stockpiling, and loading on ships or barges only within well defined high intensity shoreline zones. Cordially, Drs. Tom and Margo Wyckoff Sea beck, Washington 6/15/2009
