We object strenously but have been out of town and as a result missed this deadline. However, since Sunday is not a business day, perhaps Monday is the official cutoff. Re: SMP Revisions We object strongly to the latest revisions made public in the press release of June 8, 2009 which would now allow finfish net pen aqualculture of any sort in the waters of Jefferson County. As members of groups which have worked for decades to keep this economically conunterproductive, environmentally dangerous, unhealthy and polluting feedlot industry out of our waters, we are stunned that the Planning Commission would even consider such an inclusion! Drop this revision and return to the position of NO netpen aquaculture. Similarly, we are are very concerned about the proliferation of any form of floating shellfish aquaculture and an apparent last minute attempt to give geoduc aquaculture operations almost carte blanche access to tidelands throughout the county. In an earlier comment we suggested that a very limited expanded potential for floating shellfish operations subject to certain conditions might be acceptable. We were also informed in conversation with a geoduc aquaculturist that the total intertidal area in the county into which geoduc aquaculture could be expanded was less than twenty-five acres. Based on what we read in the press release, we unfortunately have to conclude that there has been an effort to slip some really onerous language into the SMP at a late hour. We now oppose any floating shellfish aquaculture in public waters in the county. We also oppose any expansion of geoduc aquaculture operations in any public intertidal waters in the county. David E.
