Subject: Shoreline management act
June 15,2009
I would like to thank the committee for their diligence in reviewing and listening to public comment on
the Shoreline Management Act. I respectfully request that you do not roll back the environmental
safeguards proposed in the citizen committee's draft and that you reinstate the science-based buffers for
all of Jefferson County shorelines.
I will leave the arguments based on legality to others. I speak for the wildlife and vegetation that have no
voice, their only choice being to submit to the whims of man. Weare but stewards of this land and our
tenure as such is short, but the ramifications of our decisions are far reaching, and often irreversible. I
believe it is our responsibility to arrive at a balance between man's use of the land and the sacredness of
nature. In these challenging economic times it is tempting to convert our resources to revenue. But at
what cost? Once these areas are developed they will forever be removed from nature. Even our best
intentioned "green practices" are no match for the wisdom and balance of Mother Nature.
I am appreciative of your time spent reading my comments. If they ring true in your heart I trust that you
will be guided by your heart as well as your mind, and that the resulting plan will be one that future
generations will look upon as exemplifying the ability to achieve harmony between man and nature.
Sincerely,
Sue Bond
