than you are realizing. Whether it be individual or bureaucratic responsibility,
perfection never will be achieved.
I beg you not to buy into the ideology that American citizens are stupid and
irresponsible. Do not take another step toward thinking that a distant
group of officials can do a better job of stewarding the environment than
those nearest it. This only leads to unnecessary legislation that is based
only on certain areas and actually frequently does harm in others. Most
people who buy on the water do so because they appreciate being close to
nature and its criiters. They are natural born environmentalists. Those few
others are no more numerous than the occasions of bad enforcement would be.
I have never been more angry than the day in June the eagle lady came to
mark the tree my pair of eagles has nested in for four years and scared the
living daylights out of them The adults dove to the ground squawking like I
never before had heard and flew away frantically in a direction I never
before had seen them go. She meant well, but she didn't do well. They were
afraid of her, but squawk what seems to be a quiet hello to me when I get
out the car.
We all in this country have learned a lot in the past decades about the
stewardship of our beautiful country. Please, acknowledge the progress we
have made, you and I, by allowing shoreline property owners, most of us
environmentalist at heart, to continue to care for that part of the world we
call a backyard.
