Subject: Shoreline Master Plan
As concerned citizens, we are opposed to Jefferson County's plan to continue gravel mining,
conveyers, and barge loading on our concervancy shorelines within Hood Canal for the
following reasons:
1. Jefferson County should prohibit mining related activities including crushing, screening,
washing, stockpiling and loading on ships and barges on Jefferson County shoreline of Hood
Canal.
2. Jefferson County should follow Kitsap County guidelines with regard to mining and
development activities on Hood Canal shoreline.
3. The 1976 guideline regarding the Hama Hama pit to pier decision in Mason County should
set a precedent to preserve the Hood Canal shoreline.
4. Not to allow gravel loaded ships and barges to pass through the Hood Canal floating
bridge. It is a life line for the people living on the Olympic Penninsula.
5. In the long run, what would be gained if Hood Canal's pristine areas are lost or damaged.
The tourist trade will bring in far more revenue than mining gravel.
Please take this into consideration for our future and the future of our children.
Sincerely,
Dave Schwab and Ruth Greb
