Our community, which was established in 1961, has numerous amenities which contribute to our members' lifestyle and enhance the property values. These include a large indoor swimming pool, a marina, an exercise facility, a large clubhouse and a shop for the use of members. All of these facilities are located on our shoreline. In addition, the Club owns and maintains its own water system, nine miles of private roads, with over two miles of private beach. Our concerns are what impact, if any, the revised Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) will have on our ability to continue to maintain these amenities, which contribute greatly to the value of residences in the Club. Our marina is the victim of lateral drift, which requires that its entrance be dredged annually, since there aW1J01s~ni{icant jetties in place. Our long-range plan is to extend what jetties we have ouY'tb 'Th'~aI1li~, after engineering studies and permitting processes have occurred. Since one of the stated goals ofthe SMP is to encourage lateral drift, the question arises whether we can continue annual dredging and be allowed to eventually extend our jetties? Our work shop, indoor swimming pool, clubhouse and exercise facility are in close proximity to the shoreline. Would the SMP affect our ability to replace these structures in the event of a natural disaster or calamity? The revised SMP makes no references to structures owned and operated by private residential communities such as Cape George Colony Club. Would the "High Intensity" Shoreline Environment Designation that has been assigned to our shoreline allow us to repair and maintain our amenities and extend our jetties in the future? Lastly, when could we expect a precise definition of the areas included in our Shoreline Environment Designation of "High Intensity" after the final draft of the SMP is proposed? Thank you for the opportunity to present our concerns, ~~~ William A. Stull President, Board of Trustees Cape George Colony Club
