What makes me angry or disconcerted is the i plied implication that with all the quoted PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT she has listed, i.e. 22 open public me f*g, 23 public participation events & 19 open public meetings etc. the public has had their say and have ~n given consideration for their concerns. On paper this may sounds good. I Nothing could be fi Ler from the truth, in fact; ifthis was my 1 st priority for my time & efforts I still couldn't make Mic fie and her cohorts change one items or listen to my concerns. Their minds are made up and they are folIo i the state department of ecology mandate regardless of whom or what concerns the general public hav t say. ss is presented with the mask of public involvement when in fact their involvement is a sham to ram a new S P forward regardless of any of the critics. The state department of ecology is running this train with their ants, dollars & money. Their "party line" is "we know what is good for the general public and they be n". life that doesn't include spending my time and energy reading reams of difficult to at over-whelms the average citizen and ram someone's over-zealous agenda down our throats. There is n t in wron with our existin shore line master lane ive it a chance to work. The fact is our county and t e tate haven't followed through with what we have on the books at present with enforcement. The nty will not enforce the laws we have now. Part of the reason is the legal expenses I'm sure. With these e revised SMP requirements, the enforcement & implementation expenses will have a significant impact he county budget let alone the property owner. Please, please reconsider being driven into this deep dark 1 ancial hole by the state of Washington, Department of ecology. You will see no financial help from t State of Washington after this revised SMP is implemented; the burden will be on the 6/17/2009 Page 2 of2 county. In truth, we have in this county real shore line problems, that should have the county's attention. There are ample laws on the books to take care of them but the county has done nothing. The 1 st and foremost are failed or non-existing septic systems. It does not take a genius to see where the obvious problems are. One of the largest single culprits has been corrected @ Beckett Point thanks to the folks that live there (property owners) and our hard working PUD. Adelma Beach, Simcoe Road, Fairmount Rd and any cement bulk- headed homes along hood canal are just the beginning of areas with some non-existing or failed septic systems and yet the county has done nothing to correct these problems. Talk is cheap. Please, let's work on the problems we have and not create problems we don't have. This revised SMP goes way beyond what is needed. Especially when we haven't given the SMP we have a chance. Sincerely Bert & Joanne Bennett - 4453 Hwy 20, Port Townsend, W A. Bertgh@w!lypt.com 6/1 7/2009
