Dear Planning Commission:
Thank you for all your efforts to update the SMP. As a citizen of Port Townsend in Jefferson County,
not a shoreline property owner, but a concerned environmental steward, I support your Long-Range
efforts, but hope that you do not trust those who will own shoreline property in the future to honor the
commitment we see from letters in The Leader.
I worry that reducing the buffers will endanger the shorelines in the future. Please reinstate the 150- foot
buffers for all of Jefferson County. Erosion, chemical poisoning and irresponsible use by aquaculture
businesses will deplete our native fish and other wildlife populations even further.
Please strenghten the SMP as much as possible for the future of our shorelines, for our children and their
children.
