I know it has taken many hours of your time. However, I am concerned that the proposed Shoreline Management Act, which is supposed to further protect Hood Canal, will actually do significant environmental damage. My specific concern is that there will be further damage to Black Point and to the Brinnon area. The Canadian developer Statesman spent a significant amount of money and time to influence the Planning Commission and the county to approve the master planned resort in Brinnon. They have similarly been active in the rollback of environmental protections in this proposed ordinance. The winners of this current SMA draft will not be the wildlife. It will not be the health of the canal. It will not be local residents. It will be big business. And the whole county will lose. ~ Please don't roll back any environmental safeguards proposed by the CITIZENS Committee draft. ~ Please reinstate the science-based buffers for all of Jefferson County's shorelines. ~ I support the Planning Commission's revision to make it easy for homes to be rebuilt after a fire. However, rolling back science-based buffers to achieve this is not prudent. Instead of reducing environmental safeguards on 60 miles of shoreline, the County needs to come up with a cheap and easy process to allow development on nonconforming lots while protecting water quality and habitat. Thank you. 111 ,""fl n 1,' ~/)Mk tno 1(1 ..fOJv-, Barbara Moore Lewis PO Box 303 Brinnon, WA 98320
