IN THE MATTER OF ESTABLISHING }
THE DATE FOR 2010 BUDGET CALL, }
SUBMISSIONS, REVIEW HEARINGS }
AND FINAL ADOPTION }
RESOLUTION NO. 39-09
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 36.40.071, the Jefferson County Board of Connnissioners has
selected the alternate date of the first Monday in December to hold budget hearings for the purpose of
adoption of the Jefferson County budget for 20 I 0; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 36.40.071, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners has also
selected to set other dates relating to the budget process, including but not limited to the dates set in RCW
36.40.010 and RCW 36.40.050 to conform to the alternate date for the budget hearing;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that pursuant to RCW 36.40.010, on August 3, 2009,
the Jefferson County Auditor shall notiJy in writing each elective or appointive County official to file
with her on or before the 8th day of September 2009, an estimated budget for the ensuing year, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that pursuant to RCW 36.40.050, the Jefferson County Auditor
shall submit her budget to the County Administrator by September 25, 2009; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that pursuant to RCW 36.40.070 and RCW 36.40.071 the
Jefferson County Board of Commissioners will hold a public budget hearing on December 7, 2009, the
first Monday in December, that said hearing may be continued from day to day until concluded but not to
exceed a total of five days, and that the Jefferson County Budget for 2010 shall be deliberated upon and
adopted thereafter.

For the Week of June 22, 2009
I. Description - A brief description of the agenda item.
Adoption of the Resolution to select the alternate date instead of the statutory date
for the final budget hearings before adoption of the 2010 budget.
II. Issues - A short outline of the major issues or areas that should be given
particular attention.
RCW 36.40.071 allows the County Commissioners the option of selecting the alternate
date of the first week in December for the public hearings regarding adoption of the 2010
budget.
The Budget Committee reviewed the statutory dates for budget hearings in October and
determined that the alternate date would be more advantageous for the following reasons:
1) The alternate date provides a more realistic budget hearing
2) Revenue shifts month to month and a later date would provide more realistic 2010
budget numbers
3) The desire to involve employees, advisory boards, commissions, etc. in planning
for 2010 budget.
III. Action -- What is the nature of the action the Board is being asked to
take (discussion, approval of a contractl support for a grant, etc.).
Approve this resolution adopting the alternate date for 2010 budget hearings and
subsequent adoption.
