What is Mental Health Awareness?
Refers to the understanding, recognition and
promotion of mental well-being and the
acknowledgement of mental health issues
Involves efforts to educate people about
mental health, reduce stigma surrounding
mental illness and encourage individuals to
seek help when needed

Responsibility of
All Staff
Supporting employee mental health through:
Awareness & Education •Normalizing conversations
•Providing access to training
•Supporting training for staff
•Sharing information
Mental Health Support •EAP
•Insurance Plans
•PTO, Sick, Vacation
•Leave Programs
Confidentiality & Privacy •EAP and referrals are completely
confidential
•Treat employees with privacy and
confidentiality to extent possible
Responsibilities •Senior leadership: Provide support
and resources for policy
implementation

Contribute to a supportive
workplace culture:
Seek assistance and support
when needed
Seek understanding of mental
health awareness
Participate in mental health
awareness training
Provide feedback about training

Reporting Mental Health Concerns
EMPLOYEES
Contact Supervisor
Reach out to co-workers, friends, family
Contact medical provider, EAP, Suicide Hotline
If concerned about another employee
Contact Supervisor, Director, Human Resources
Anonymous –send note through interoffice mail
MANAGERS
Talk with employee if they feel comfortable
Encourage employee to seek assistance
Provide resources and contact information
Offer opportunity to take accrued leave
Check in and support employee
Take training in mental health awareness
Check in with Human Resources
Responding to a Traumatic Event in the Workplace
Inform employees of the Employee Assistance
Program and other resources for emotional and
mental health support
Contract with a mental health professional to
provide on-site emotional and mental health
support to employees immediately and in the
longer term, if necessary
