JEFFERSON COUNTY
Monday, November 17th, 1941.
Speoial mid month1y meeting of the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners WaS oalled on the
above date and at the hour of 10 a.m. with all members present. Arthur C. Boren, Chainnan, Hugh
Nisbet and Bertil Kruso members.
Real Es~ate applioations were gone over ~~d siBned.
A plan was BlJbmittsd to the Balard by the County Engineer relative to the matter of the amount
of money the County would hfil&l the City of Port 'L'ownsend out on the Street improvement for the year
of 1942 llnd thEl sum of ff-, ~ ~ was set aside for that purpose.
Upon motion the Board adjourned to meet again on Monday, Deo 1st, 1942.

WHEREAS an action Was commenced on June 10th, 1940, in the United States District Court
for the Western District of Waahington, Northern Division, Cause No 218, entitled UNITED STATFB of
AMERICA va. AAKER, et al., in Vlhich Jefferson County WaS one of the defendants, and
\\HEREAS said action was brought to condemn certain lands in Clallarn and Jefferson COu....lties.,
including land owned by Jefferson County, or in which it had a proprietary interest, and
WHEREAS said action D.S to Jefferson County is still penting, and
WHEREAS it is clenrJq the full int:,.ention of the United States of America to carry se.id matt,sr-
on to final judgement, and
WHEREAS it haS already been determined b,y said United States ~.atrict Court that the United
States of AmeriCa has a legpl right to condemn all of sl1id lands, leaving as the sole question the
amount of compensation the various land owners, and
V~ all Said land of which Jefferson County is the owner or in which it hps a p~cprieta.~
interest has var,fing amounts of timber on it, the value of which timber hl1s been a ml'!,tter of prolonged
controversy between Jefferson County and the United states of America, and
\\HEREAS the matter of determining the value of Said lands would involve the securi ng of
testimony of rn;;nborous expert witnesses, the retention of a special attorney, the payment. of the
e~penses for travel and maintenance for t~e PrOssCllting Attorney for said county v.mile in ~ttenrl~nce
upon said trial, and
'I'1HEP,EP.S for these reasons 1:.'1e COmmissioners of said county believe that it would be in \;he
best interests of said county to compromise said valuation claims so that all the foregoing expenses
might be saved and the possibility prevented of a jury returning a verdict with a lower valuation
on said property than the Commissioners believe is obtainable by negotiation,
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for Jefferson County that an offer be made
to the United States of AmeriCa to accept the sum of Sixteen Thousl1nd Eight hundred and fifteen
dollars ($16,815.00) as settlement in full for all of Said COlU1ty'S claims for compensation ariSing
in aaid action for the following described lands in the stipulationa of value hereto attached I
1- Tracts J-16, J-33, J-264.
