Monday, Iarf/ 5th, 1942. 10 A.M.
'!he Board ilmar of Jefferson County Comm1ssioners meet on the above naned date and hour with
all members present. Arthur C. Boren, Chai:nnan, Hugh Nisbet and Bertll Kruse, manbers.
It being the time and place tor the opening of the bids for the eupply of County Gas the
following bids were on hand: .
Union Oil Company, Shell Oil and Stan:l.ar:i Oil Co.
Upon opening the bids it WaS found that the Shell Oil and Standard had aul:rn1 tted bids of
Eythel Gas 1.4.85 ; Regular 13 .22; per gal
mile the Union Oil Co Was somewhat higher and so the award Was made to the Sholl and Standard.
The bid of the Tidewater Associated Oil Co was received too lata and it was found that their
bid WaS the SAme as the Shell and Standard.
T'ne Board proceeded to the Treasurer's office to count the cash and this WaS found to be correot
as follows I
Cash on hand in office
Certified bank balance
Resolution no X 35 was signed:

WHEREAS in the interests of National Defense it is deaned by the Conun:l.ssioners of Jefferson
County that they visit the office of the Attorney General at Olympia, Wash on JEI1lY 7th, and
WHUlliAS it is deemed to be advisable to proceed to Olympia on the afternoon of Je:ny 6th so
'lHEREFORE BE IT SO ORDE.'RED that the Board proceed on the &bove named date and at public
exponse to conclude the buisness at hand.

WHEREAS the United States of America is now at War, and
WHERE.AS sabotage of ",mportabt utilities !L'ld plants of this area; !'rnch aa the water worka
and the paper mill, is feared, and
WHEREAS absolute protection of them is necessary for the public order and public health,
IT IS HEREI'II'lR RESOLVED AND ORDERED by the Board of Commissioners of Jefferson County,
Washington, that an inunediate emergency exists; that anned deputy sheriffs, of a number that the
sheriff of Jefferson County shall deem sui table. shall be placed on gu.:rd at the h6ad works of the
City water system, and the paper mill of the National Paper Products CQ1lpany in the city of
Port Townsend, Washington; that these deputies shall be duly paid by warrants drs\m by the County
iuditor, duly presented to the County Treasurer, and these officers are directed to draw and
honor such warrants when presented to them in the manner provided by law, in an amount not to exceed
the sum of (Not to exceed ten hundred and fifty dollars.
