The Honorable Board of Jefferson County Commissioners organized the new Board at Ii
10:00 A. M., this date. Tom )fUroy and James C. Yarr were' sworn in to assume their 11
duties in the second and third districts of the County. An election wqs held am Lyall:!
Arey was elected chairman of the Board.,

A letter was received from the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce requesting II
minimum requirements for lighting the Airport, and A. C. Grady, Prosecuting Attorney I
was requested to investigate and reply. II
Roy Freeman and Roy L. Nordby appeared concerning the Nordland Ferry operating on I,
the night shift. It tlias moved by Tom Milroy and seconded by James Yarr that Engineer Ii
Jones meet with tho Port Commission to see what arrangements can be made asresable to iL
both the Port COllllllis~on and the County Commissioners. Mr. Jones to report to the boar~.
Kei th Jones, Englneer, made a report as to how the road funds will be allocated
during 1949.

IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE WARD OF, COUNT'{ COMMISSIONERS OF JEFFERSON COUNTY, II
WASHINGTON, in regular session assembled: That it is the intontion of said Board il
to construct a bridge across the Portage Canal at the south end of Indian Island. The ,i
aaid bridge to be Mar the northwest end of the canal. It is further resolved that the :11
County Engineer be authorized to obtain permission for this work from the Corps of II
Engineers War Department. :1

Monday, January 17, 1949.
The Board convened at 10:00 A. M. Roy Freeman, Roy Nordby, J. D. Bengtson and
others appeared relative to the Nordland Ferry. A request was made to build a bridge
across Portage Canal. This is to be considered for future programs. The Navy will be
contacted as to their budget for this item.
Resolution No. 0-75 was signed by the Board for construction of a bridge across
Portage Canal, as follows:
