The Honorable Board of Jefferson County Commissioners met in regular session with
all members present.
The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved as read.
Mr. W. S. Porter appeared and requested the use of a bulldozer and two trucks for
about three days at Jefferson County Fair Grounds. The work will be done immediately.
Mrs. Lee Devis requested the lease of the Fair Grounds for a longer period of time for
4-H Club Fair. A motion was made by Bertil Kruse extending the lease of the Fair Grounds.
The matter was taBled for advice by the Prosecuting Attorney.
A request was received from Alfred J. Schweppe, Seattle, for a ten year lease on
(Jroperty which the County has a 1 interest in, and other property sold under contract.
~25.00 was tendered as a down payment. Upon motion made by Bertil Kruse and seconded
by James C. Yarr, the Board rejedted the request for leas~ as the property is near a
County gravel pit, more particularly described as S~ of S~~ of SE; See. 7, T. 30 N. R 1 W,
S~ Sw~ SEk, and NE4 swk SEk, Sec. 7, Tw. 30 N., R 1 W., and N! SWk ~lk, and SEk SWk ~14
of Sec. 17, T. 30 N., R 1 W. Refund of $25.00 to be returned to Mr. Schweppe.
Mr. 'Ni Ibur Kendall appeared requesting the use of the Veterans' Hall for use of a
U. S. O. during the emereency. Mr. Bertil Kruse made a motion, seconded by James Yarr that
the use of the Veterans' Hall, first floor and basement, be granted to the U. S. 0.,
'o'/ithout cost to the County. Motion carried.
A delegation of Yle~;t End residents appeared relative to a CCC Road from the Hubble
Ranch to the Snahappish Valley, a di stance of eleven miles, presenting a petition signed
by a number of reoidents of the West End of Jefferson County. The petitioners request
t.he old CCC road to be made a public hiGhway. George Northup, Auguste Northup, Chas. W.
Decker, rlrs. Gentemann and others appeared. . From testimony gLven, the road is a County Road
and has been closed to traffi c by Rayonier, Inc. The Board will Pl"Oceed to contact the
officials of Rayonier and tuke steps to keep the road open to the Pubibic.
An application for an E liquor license was received from Clarence Henry Galloway,
d.b.a lvft'. ','lalker Grocery and Service Station, Star Route 2, Quilcene. Application
approved by the BOal'd.
A letter was received from the State Dept. of Highways stating that the State will
no longer need certain parts of State Highway No.9, after September 1,1952. That
portion of the old location of Primary State Highway No. 9 (Olj~pic Highway) lying outside
the rieht of way of the revised locution of scid Highway opposite approximately Station
261 . 00 southeaoterly to Sta. 285 + 00 in Sec. 1, T. 29 N., R 2 W. W. M. Also from Sta.
333 · 00 southerly to 3ta. 347 + 00 .in Sec. 7, T. 29 N., R 1 W. W. M. Also from Sta.
352 + 00 in said 3ec. 7, southerly to Sta. 363 . 00 in Sec. 18, T. 29 N. R 1 W. W. M.
Also from Sta. 368 + 00 in said Sec. 18, southerly and southwesterly to Sta. 428 ~ 00
in Soc. 24, T. 29 N., R 2 W. Vl.M.
A contract was sie;necl by Lyall Arey, Chairman, with Fort \10rden oi'ficials for $1727.42,
pro~iding that the Army furnish supplemental ferry service on Nordland Ferry, operating between
Hadlock and Indian Island, from 5:00 A. M. to 12 midnight, hourly, from July 23, 1951,
until date of the completion of the Portage Canal Bridge, approximately, Oct. 31, 1951.
